(the following program is currently on hiatus!) The DiverseCITY (D-CITY) program is a peer education initiative that matches D-CITY representatives with diverse populations of youth in our communities. The peer education is centered on the cultivation of awareness of issues that impact youth on three levels: internal, interpersonal, and institutional. The workshops are designed to stimulate interaction utilizing popular education strategies for instruction (circular dialogue). D-CITY
reps go through a three-month training process (October-December) prior
to facilitating workshops in the community. During the training process
the D-CITY reps explore socially relevant issues such as race/ethnicity,
gender/sex, sexual orientation, citizenship/nationality, and globalization.
Following their training, they spend 2-3 afternoons each week at school
and community sites where they lead other youth in interactive workshops
addressing issues of diversity. Over a thousand youth are meaningfully
served each year through this program.
